Algemene informatie: Noord-Ierland is een onderdeel van het Verenigd Koninkrijk en ligt in het noordoosten van het eiland Ierland. Noord-Ierland ontstond in 1921 toen het eiland Ierland werd verdeeld: Noord-Ierland bleef onderdeel van het Verenigd Koninkrijk, terwijl de rest van Ierland onafhankelijk werd. Het kende een lange periode van conflict, vooral tussen de protestantse unionisten en katholieke nationalisten, bekend als "The Troubles" tussen 1960 en 1998. Het Goede Vrijdagakkoord in 1998 bracht grotendeels vrede en legde de basis voor machtsdeling en samenwerking. Alhoewel het vandaag de dag nog opmerkelijk is dat beide groepen nog gescheiden leeft.

Staatsvorm: Noord-Ierland is geen onafhankelijke staat maar een onderdeel van het Verenigd Koninkrijk en is een constitutionele monarchie. Het heeft wel een gedeeltelijk zelfstandig bestuur. Het heeft zijn eigen regionale overheid (devolved government) en zetelt in Stormont (Belfast). Het heeft bevoegdheden over o.a. onderwijs, gezondheidszorg, justitie en infrastructuur en staat bekend als het Noord-Ierse Parlement of Northern Ireland Assembly. Het Parlement in Westminster behoudt controle over o.a. buitenlandse zaken, defensie en immigratie. Koning Charles III is het staatshoofd van het hele Verenigd Koninkrijk, dus ook van Noord-Ierland.Munteenheid: De officiële munteenheid is het Pond Sterling (GBP), onderverdeeld in 100 pennies.
Taal: In Noord-Ierland worden meerdere talen gesproken, maar de belangrijkste en meest gebruikte taal is Iers. Iers is een Keltische taal, verwant aan het Iers in de Republiek Ierland. Maar Engels is en blijft de standaard taal.Religie: De religie in Noord-Ierland speelt een belangrijke rol in de samenleving en heeft ook een grote invloed gehad op de geschiedenis en politiek van het gebied. Noord-Ierland is religieus verdeeld tussen rooms-katholieken en protestanten. Ongeveer 45,7% is Rooms-katholiek en worden vaak geassocieerd met nationalisten (veel mensen die een verenigd Ierland willen). En 43,5 % zijn van Protestantse afkomst en worden vaak geassocieerd met unionisten (die bij het Verenigd Koninkrijk willen blijven).
Ligging: Noord-Ierland ligt op het eiland Ierland, in het noordelijke deel ervan. In het noorden grenst het aan de Atlantische Oceaan, in het oosten aan de Ierse Zee en in het zuid en westen aan de Republiek Ierland.
Klimaat: Noord-Ierland heeft een koel, vochtig en mild zeeklimaat, met zachte winters, koele zomers en veel neerslag het hele jaar door. Er staat veel wind aan de kust in de herfst en wintermaanden.

General Information: Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom and is located in the northeast of the island of Ireland. Northern Ireland was formed in 1921 when the island of Ireland was partitioned: Northern Ireland remained part of the United Kingdom, while the rest of Ireland became independent.
