Designed by architect Gaudí as a kind of an ideal dream village outside the hustle and bustle of the big city. The village was never built. Of the 60 houses there were planned, only two are built (see

The Sagrada Familia is a basilica designed by Antoni Gaudí. The name Sagrada Familia means holy family.

Since the laying of the first brick in 1882, until the present day, they are building on the
church continually. During the Spanish Civil War, the construction stopped for a few years. On June 10, 1926 Gaudí dies after he has come under a tram near his beloved church.

Be prepared during your visit that the building is still under construction because there is still a lot of construction work.

The Sagrada Familia is likely to be completed in 2030 as a whole church, although this is largely dependent on funding. The construction of the Sagrada Familia depends on public donations, just as Gaudi intended.

Gaudi's ideas were also well thought out in the
interior. As usual in the works of Gaudi and modernism, there are no straight lines on the inside. The aim of this is to follow nature (in which there are no straight lines) (zie film).

The
stained glass windows also follow that vision. After all, according to Gaudi Sunshine was nature's best painter. As a visitor, you will see a dazzling display of colors, with the help of the stained glass windows.

Amid the many neo-style houses, your eye will undoubtedly fall on Gaudi's Casa Milá on Passaig de Gràcia. The house is commonly called La pedrera (stone quarry).

One of the most striking elements of the
building is the roof, topped with skylights, fans and chimneys.

All these elements, constructed from brick covered with lime, crushed marble or glass, have a specific architectural function, but are also real
sculptures integrated into the building. From the roof you have a beautiful view of Barcelona and Sagrada Familia.

The Casa Amatller, together with the adjacent Casa Barló, designed by Gaudí is part of the Illa de la Disórdia, or the Block of Discord.
