Bezienswaardigheden / Tips 2026:

1) Dinant: Een van de mooiste plaatsen in de provincie Namen is de stad Dinant. Dinant wordt gezien als toegangspoort tot de Ardennen en ligt aan de prachtige Maas. Dinant is een perfecte combinatie van geschiedenis en natuur voor een daguitstapje of een korte vakantie. Met zijn pittoreske huisjes en smalle straatjes is Dinant een schilderachtige plaats waar je het echte België kunt proeven, zeker omdat het toerisme Dinant nog niet ontdekt heeft. Dinant is bovenal ook een leuk en gezellig stadje met veel restaurants. 

2) Citadelle de Dinant : Boven de stad en achter de Collégiale Notre-Dame de Dinant torent de citadel. Je kunt de citadel bezichtigen en meer te weten komen over de rijke geschiedenis. Ook vind je veel informatie over de geschiedenis van de 1ste Wereldoorlog. Ook heb je vanaf de citadel een prachtig uitzicht over Dinant. De citadel is bereikbaar via een kabelbaan of via de trap met 408 treden. Je kunt ook met eigen vervoer tot aan de citadel rijden, er is voldoende parkeergelegenheid en parkeren is gratis. Het is raadzaam om de entree tickets online te bestellen. 

3) Museum la Maison de Monsieur Sax: Adolphe Sax werd in 1814 in Dinant geboren. Als zoon van een instrumentenbouwer startte hij op jonge leeftijd een muziekopleiding in Brussel. Zijn favoriete instrument was de klarinet, maar Sax begon al snel te experimenteren en probeerde nieuwe instrumenten te ontwikkelen. In 1835 stelde hij een complexe basklarinet voor, in 1841 kwam hij op de Brusselse industrie tentoonstelling met een saxofoon. In Belgie kreeg hij echter niet de nodige erkenning en hij stichtte in Parijs een instrumentenfabriek die uitgroeide tot een bedrijf met meer dan 200 werknemers. Een bezoek aan zijn oude huis nu een museum is gratis en is het hele jaar geopend (Rue Adolphe Sax, 37).

4) Collegiale kerk Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Dinant: De meest opvallende stadskenmerk is de kathedraal. De gotische Collegiale kerk Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Dinant dateert uit de 13e eeuw, waar in de 16e eeuw een peervormige klokkentoren aan werd toegevoegd. Het gebouw is volledig opgetrokken uit de grijze kalksteen van Dinant. Het glasraam in de dwarsbeuk is ontworpen door de Gentse glazenier Gustave Ladon (1863-1942) en behoort tot de grootste glasramen van Europa. Er zijn taferelen uit de Bijbel in afgebeeld. De openingstijden zijn van 1 april t/m 31 oktober. Op de zondagen in de maanden juli en augustus worden er gratis tours gegeven.

5) Museum van Leffe bier: De Leffe is een abdij van de Norbertijnen in Leffe en ligt in het noorden van Dinant. In 2012 gingen de deuren open van Maison Leffe dat gehuisvest is in de oude kapel van een klooster waarin tegenwoordig ook een hotel en spa resort zijn gevestigd. In het museum kom je meer te weten over de geschiedenis van het merk door de eeuwen heen en de verschillende varianten. De entree is 15,00 EURO per persoon dan krijg je een rondleiding en je mag de Leffe bier proeven. Als je een bier liefhebber bent is een bezoek aan het Leffe museum zeker een aanrader.

6) Rots Bayard: De rots Bayard is een vijfendertig meter hoge naaldrots aan de rechteroever van de Maas tussen de wijken Saint-Paul en Les Rivages. Wanneer je via het zuiden Dinant binnen komt rijden kan je niet om deze rotsen heen. De Bayard is hierdoor een boegbeeld geworden voor Dinant en een belangrijke toeristische attractie.

2) Citadelle de Dinant: The citadel rises above the city and lies behind the Collégiale Notre-Dame de Dinant. You can visit the citadel and learn more about its rich history. You will also find a lot of information about the history of the first world war. From the citadel you also have a beautiful view of Dinant. The citadel can be reached via a cable car or via stairs with 408 steps. You can also drive to the citadel with your own vehicle, there is plenty of parking space and parking is free. It is advisable to order entrance tickets online.

4) Collegiale kerk Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Dinant: The most noticeable city feature is the cathedral the Collegiate Church of Our Lady of Dinant. The Gothic Collegiate Church of Our Lady of Dinant dates from the 13th century, with a pear-shaped bell tower added in the 16th century. The building is made entirely of the gray limestone of Dinant. The stained glass window in the transept was designed by the Ghent glass artist Gustave Ladon (1863-1942) and is one of the largest stained glass windows in Europe. It depicts scenes from the Bible. The opening days/hours are from April 1 to October 31. Free tours are given on Sundays in July and August. 

5) Museum of Leffe beer: The Leffe is an abbey of the Norbertines in Leffe and is located in the north of Dinant. In 2012, the doors of Maison Leffe were opened, which is housed in the old chapel of a monastery that now also houses a hotel and spa resort. In the museum you can learn more about the history of the brand over the centuries and the different variants. The entrance fee is 15.00 EURO per person, you get a tour and you can taste the Leffe beer. If you are a beer lover, a visit to the Leffe museum is definitely worth it.

6) Bayard Rock: The Bayard rock is a thirty-five meter (114 feet) high coniferous rock on the right bank of the Meuse between the districts of Saint-Paul and Les Rivages. When you drive into Dinant from the south, you cannot ignore these rocks. The Bayard has therefore become a figurehead for Dinant and is an important tourist attraction.

Dinant is een kleine stad en heeft een populair toeristisch centrum. Op het eerste gezicht lijkt Dinant een klein druk stadje waarvan het beeld vooral bepaald wordt door de doorgaande wegen die er doorheen lopen.

                 Maar als je even in de stad verblijft zul je erachter komen dat Dinant veel meer te bieden heeft.

Er zijn namelijk tal van leuke barretjes, winkels en restaurants in dit karakteristieke stadje aan de Maas te vinden.

De citadel van Dinant is gebouwd bij een rots, vlak bij het stadscentrum, 100 meter hoger dan het wateroppervlak van de Maas. In de citadel is sinds het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog een historisch en wapen museum gevestigd.

The Dinant citadel is built on a rock, close to the city center, 100 meters (328 feet) higher than the water surface of the Meuse. The citadel has housed a historical and weapons museum since the end of the Second World War.





Het eerste bouwwerk op deze locatie dateert van 1051, het werd gebouwd in opdracht van prins bisschop Dietwin van Luik.

The first structure on this location dates back to 1051, it was built on behalf of Price Bishop Dietwin of Liège.





De citadel werd in 1530 uitgebreid, onder meer met een slottoren en een ronde halve toren. Dit bood plaats aan 500 soldaten.

In 1675 bezetten de Franse de stad en gebruikten de citadel als verdedigingsbasis. Dr citadel werd in 1703 opgeblazen bij de aftocht van de Franse troepen.

Het laatste bouwwerk werd gebouwd van 1818 tot 1821, uit de periode van het Verenigd Koninkrijk der Nederlanden. Tot de Belgische Revolutie was de citadel de ligplaats van een Nederlands garnizoen (zie film).

                                         Vandaag de dag heb je een prachtig uitzicht over Dinant vanaf de citadel.

             Bij de ingang van het citadel vindt je een Franse Militaire begraafplaats uit de eerste Wereld oorlog.

Aan de zuidkant als je Dinant binnen rijdt kom je de rots Bayard tegen. Dit is een stuk rots dat losstaat van de rotswand en de weg loopt hier dwars doorheen.

On the south side as you enter Dinant you will come across the Bayard rock. This is a piece of rock that is searate from the rock wall and the road runs straight through it.
