Bezienswaardigheden / tips Altea 2025:

1) Altea: Op ongeveer 10 km vanaf Benidorm ligt het pittoreske stadje Altea. Altea ligt aan de Costa Blanca aan de Middellandse Zee in de provincie Alicante aan de baai van Altea die begrensd wordt door de Morro de Toix (285 m). De kust bestaat grotendeels uit zand- en kiezelstranden. Altea heeft een kustlijn van circa 6 km met kliffen, kleine baaien en lange stukken vlak strand waaronder het strand Playa de la Roda bij het oude stadscentrum. Het grootste strand van Altea is het iets zuidelijker van het centrum gelegen Cap Blanch dat grenst aan het strand van Albir, dat behoort tot de gemeente Alfaz del Pi. Noordwaarts van het centrum ligt het kiezelstrand Playa de Cap Negret en nog iets verder noordwaarts ligt het strand van L'Olla tegenover het gelijknamig eilandje. 

2) Casco Antiguo de Altea: Casco Antiguo de Altea is de oude stad gebouwd op een heuvel. Het oude gedeelte is al sinds de 18de eeuw een kunststadje met oude geplaveide witte straatjes en prachtige uitzichten op de Middelandse zee. In dit gedeelte van de stad gebeurt het, hier vind je vele kleine restaurantjes, winkels en hier staat ook de prachtige Parroquia de Nuestra Señora Del Consuelo, de parochiekerk en het symbool van Altea. Als je de oude stad niet hebt gezien heb je Altea niet gezien, dus dit gedeelte mag je beslist niet overslaan!

3) Parroquia de Nuestra Señora Del Consuelo: Deze prachtige parochiekerk met zijn blauwe koepels dateert begin 20ste eeuw en staat in de oude stad van Altea. Deze kerk ligt aan de Plaza de Iglesia en hier vind je vele restaurantjes en heb je een prachtig uitzicht op Altea en Benidorm. Een bezoek aan de kerk is gratis en zeker de moeite waard. 

4) Sierra de Bernia: De Sierra de Bernia is een kleine bergketen en heeft een lengte van elf kilometer en strekt zich uit in oost-westelijke richting, dicht bij de Middellandse Zee. In de Sierra de Bernia zijn verschillende mooie wandelroutes uitgezet. Ik zelf heb helaas de wandeling niet gemaakt maar dit staat nog wel op mijn verlanglijstje. Via meerdere links krijg je een duidelijk uitleg en ervaringen over deze prachtige wandeling. 

5) Klimaat: Altea heeft een mediterraan klimaat, met milde winters en warme droge zomers. De Middellandse Zee heeft een grote invloed op het klimaat in de badplaats. Neerslag valt er weinig, de regen die er valt, valt vooral in de wintermaanden. Door de specifieke ligging heeft Altea vaak een onbewolkte lucht, terwijl enkele kilometers landinwaarts wel een wolkendek te zien is. Dit komt door de aanwezigheid van het gebergte ten westen van de stad. 

Highlights / tips Altea 2025:

1) Altea: The picturesque town of Altea lies about 10 km (6.3 miles) from Benidorm. Altea is located on the Costa Blanca on the Mediterranean Sea in the province of Alicante on the bay of Altea, which is bordered by the Morro de Toix (285 m). The coast consists largely of sand and pebble beaches. Altea has a coastline of approximately 6 km (3.8 miles) with cliffs, small coves and long stetches of flat beach, including Playa de la Roda beach near the old town. The largest beach of Altea is Cap Blanch, located slightly more south of the center, which borders the beach of Albir, which belongs to the municipality of Alfaz del Pi. North of the center lies pebble beach Playa de Cap Negret and a little further north lies the beach of L'Olla opposite of the same name.

2) Casco Antiguo de Altea: Casco Antiguo de Altea is the old town built on a hill. The old part has been an art town since the 18th century with old cobbled white streets and beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea. It happens in this part of the city, here you will find many small restaurants, shops and here is also the beautiful Parroquia de Nuestra Señora Del Consuelo, the parish church and the symbol of Altea. If you haven't seen the old town, you haven't seen Altea, so don't miss this part of Altea. 

3) Parroquia de Nuestra Señora Del Consuelo: This beautiful parish church with its blue domes dates to the early 20th century and is located in the old town of Altea. This church is located on the Plaza de Iglesia and here you will find many restaurants and you have a beautiful view of Altea and Benidorm. A visit to the church is free and well worth it.

4) Sierra de Bernia: The Sierra de Bernia is a small mountain range and has a length of eleven kilometers (6.9 miles) and extends in an east-west direction, close to the Mediterranean Sea. In the Sierra de Bernia there are several beautiful hiking trails. Unfortunately I did not make the walk myself, but this is still on my wish list. 5) Climate: Altea has a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and warm, dry summers. The Mediterranean Sea has a major influence on the climate. There is little rainfall, the rain falls mainly in the winter months. Due to its specific location, Altea often has a clear sky, while a few kilometers inland a cloud cover can be seen. This is due to the presence of the mountain range west of the city.

Daardoor heerst er een aangenaam klimaat, met gemiddelde temperaturen van 18 graden gedurende het winterseizoen.

Altea werd in de jaren 50 en 60 van de twintigste eeuw ook een ontmoetingsplaats voor allerlei kunstenaars, schilders, schrijvers, enz., waardoor het ook de naam van kunstenaarsstad kreeg.

Nog steeds geldt de stad als een belangrijke culturele plaats en is de Culturele hoofdstad van de regio Valancia.

                                 Dit komt o.a. door de ligging van de kerk, bovenop een heuvel midden in de stad. 

                            This is partly due to the location of the church, on top of a hill in the middle of the city. 





Hierdoor is de Parroquia De nuestra vanuit heel Altea te zien, maar heb je ook een prachtig uitzicht vanuit de kerk naar de stad en zee.

As a result, the Parroquia De Nuestra can be seen from all over Altea, but you also have a beautiful view from the church to the city and sea. 





                       Altea is zonder twijfel een van de meest charmante steden aan de Spaanse 'Witte Kust'.

                    Altea is without doubt one of the most charming town to be found on Spain's White Coast'.





       Altea is vergelijkbaar met andere steden aan de Costa Blanca omdat het een nieuwe en een oude wijk heeft.

                      Altea is similar to other Costa Blanca towns in that it has a new and an old neighbourhood.

                          





               Het oude gedeelte ligt op de top van een heuvel vanwaar je werkelijk spectaculaire uitzichten hebt.

Al met al is Altea een mooie stad, populair bij zowel vakantiegangers als mensen die het geluk hebben in de omgeving te kunnen wonen; het heeft een langzaam groeiende gemeenschap van multinationale expats (zie film).

All in all Altea is a pretty town, popular with both holidaymakers and those fortunate enough to be able to live in the area; it has a slowly growing community of multinational expatriates (see film). 





De klim naar het oude gedeelte langs steile hellingen en getrapte straten onthult bij elke bocht een prachtig uitzicht en strekt zich uit over de hele La Marina-regio.

The ascent to the old section along steep slopes and stepped streets reveals a beautiful view at every turn and extends along the entire La Marina region.
