Bezienswaardigheden / tips Cabourg 2025:

1) Cabourg: Cabourg is een charmante kustplaats in Normandië, gelegen aan de Côte Fleurie. Het staat bekend om zijn belle époque-architectuur, brede zandstranden en historische banden met kunstenaars en schrijvers, met name Marcel Proust. Cabourg is vooral een aanrader voor reizigers die van rust, natuur, mooie stranden en architectuur houden. Ook is het ideaal voor gezinnen die op zoek zijn naar een kindvriendelijke omgeving zonder de extreme drukte. 

2) Promenade Marcel Proust: De Promenade Marcel Proust is een van de bekendste en meest sfeervolle plekken in Cabourg. De Promenade is een brede, autovrije wandelboulevard van ongeveer 3,6 kilometer lang. Ze loopt langs het strand van Cabourg en is genoemd naar de beroemde Franse schrijver Marcel Proust, die regelmatig hier verbleef.  Het is één van de langste wandelpromenades van Europa aan zee. Je loopt tussen de zandstranden en de prachtige Belle Époque villa's in. Het uitzicht is prachtig bij zonsondergang. Er heerst een rustige en elegante sfeer.  

3) Strand van Cabourg: Het strand van Cabourg is één van de grootste trekpleisters van deze elegante badplaats. Het strand ligt op loopafstand van het centrum. Bij laagwater is het strand enorm breed, perfect voor wandelingen, strandspelletjes of gewoon lekker relaxen. Het is familievriendelijk en het strand wordt goed onderhouden. In de zomerperiode zijn er strandwachten, toiletten en douches aanwezig. Buiten het hoogseizoen is het er heerlijk rustig en ideaal voor rustzoekers. 

4) Nylic Square: Nylic Square ligt in de Jardins du Casino en is een tuin met vele soorten planten, bomen en bloemen die het hele jaar door kleur en sfeer geven. Er zijn bankjes en er is een carousel. 

5) Avenue de la Mer: De Avenue de la Mer is de bekendste winkelstraat van Cabourg. Je vindt er veel winkels, boetieks, restaurants, ijssalons en souvenirwinkels. In de zomermaanden is de straat vaak autovrij (voetgangerszone), waardoor je hier lekker rustig kunt wandelen en winkelen.

6) Villa du Temps Retrouvé: De Villa du Temps Retrouvé is een museum gewijd aan de Belle Époque en het werk van Marcel Proust. Het is gevestigd in een elegante villa uit de 19e eeuw, ontworpen door architect Clément Parent. Het museum biedt informatie met digitale media en tijdelijke tentoonstellingen. Een ticket voor een volwassen kost 9,00 euro. 

7) Festival du film Romantique de Cabourg: Het festival du Film Romantique de Cabourg is een jaarlijks filmfestival dat plaatsvindt van 10 tot en met 14 juni 2026 in Cabourg. Sinds 1984 is dit festival een belangrijk evenement voor liefhebbers van romantische cinema. Het biedt een platform voor zowel gevestigde als opkomende filmmakers om hun werk te presenteren. De focus ligt voornamelijk op romantische films. Films worden vertoond in drie bioscopen langs de Côte Fleurie, evenals zijn er gratis openluchtvertoningen op het strand bij het Grand Hôtel. 

8) Hippodrome de Cabourg: Het Hippodrome is gespecialiseerd in trotterraces (paardrijden met sulky). Gedurende het jaar worden er meer dan 40 wedstrijden georganiseerd, waarvan een groot aantal in de zomermaanden plaats vinden. De locatie is ideaal voor zowel paardenliefhebbers als gezinnen die op zoek zijn naar een gezellige en sportieve sfeer.

3) Beach of Cabourg: Cabourg beach is one of the biggest attractions of this elegant seaside resort. It's within walking distance of the town center. At low tide, the beach is incredibly wide, perfect for walks, beach games, or just relaxing. It's family-friendly and well-maintained. During the summer, there are lifeguards, restrooms, and showers. Outside the high season it is wonderfully quiet and ideal for those seeking peace and quiet. 

4) Nylic Square: Located in the Jardins du Casino, Nylic Square is a garden with a variety of plants, trees, and flowers that provide color and ambiance year-round. There are benches and a carousel. 

5) Avenue de la Mer: Avenue de la Mer is Cabourg's most famous shopping street. You'll find many shops, boutiques, restaurants, ice cream parlors, and souvenir shops there. During the summer months the street is often car-free (pedestrian zone), so you can enjoy a peaceful stroll and shopping here.

6) Villa du Temps Retrouvé: The Villa du Temps Retrouvé is a museum dedicated to the Belle Époque and the work of Marcel Proust. 7) Festival du film Romantique de Cabourg: The Cabourg Romantique Film Festival is an annual film festival taking place from June 10 to 14, 2026, in Cabourg. Since 1984, this festival has been a major event for romantic cinema enthusiasts. It provides a platform for both established and emerging filmmakers to present their work. The focus is primarily on romantic films. Films are shown in three cinemas along the Côte Fleurie, as well as free outdoor screenings on the beach near the Grand Hotel. 

8) Hippodrome de Cabourg: The Hippodrome specializes in trotter racing (sulky riding). More than 40 competitions are held throughout the year, many of which take place during the summer months. The venue is ideal for both horse lovers and families seeking a friendly and sporty atmosphere.





Cabourg is vooral bekend geworden door Marcel Proust, de beroemde Franse schrijver. Hij verbleef vaak in het Grand Hôtel tussen 1907 en 1914. (hier op de foto). Veel van zijn verhalen over het leven aan de kust zijn geïnspireerd door zijn tijd in Cabourg.

In de Tweede Wereldoorlog bevond Cabourg zich vlakbij de landingsstranden van D-Day, maar het stadscentrum werd gelukkig relatief ongeschonden gelaten.

During World War II, Cabourg was located near the D-Day landing beaches, but fortunately the city center was left relatively unscathed.





  Na de oorlog groeide het toerisme opnieuw, en veel van de belle époque-architectuur bleef behouden (zie film).

Cabourg is vandaag een populaire toeristische bestemming, vooral voor liefhebbers van cultuur, geschiedenis en het strand en de zee (zie film).

Het strand strekt zich uit over ongeveer 4 kilometer. Bij eb wordt het strand zeer breed, wat het ideaal maakt voor wandelingen, strandzeilen en allerlei strandactiviteiten (zie film).

Langs het strand loopt de beroemde Promenade Marcel Proust, met een lengte van zo'n 3,6 km, een van de langste zeepromenades van Europa.
